Laboratory Water Purification System
Aquatic Solutions
Laboratory Water Purification System
Type 1, 2, and 3 laboratory water purification systems for research, pharmaceutical, clinical, and industrial laboratories — meeting ASTM, CLSI, ISO 3696, and pharmacopoeia standards.
Overview
Laboratory water quality directly impacts the accuracy and reproducibility of analytical results. Contaminants in water — ions, organics, bacteria, particles, and dissolved gases — can interfere with sensitive assays, damage analytical instruments, and invalidate experimental results. Laboratory water purification systems produce water of defined purity grades (Type 1, 2, or 3) to meet the specific requirements of different laboratory applications.
Aquatic Solutions supplies laboratory water purification systems from compact bench-top units to large central systems for multi-lab facilities. Our systems combine RO, deionisation (EDI or mixed-bed), UV oxidation, and ultrafiltration to produce water meeting ASTM D1193, CLSI, ISO 3696, and pharmacopoeia (IP, BP, USP) standards. We also supply point-of-use polishing systems that upgrade Type 3 (RO) water to Type 1 (ultrapure) water on demand.
Key Features
- Type 1 (ultrapure): resistivity > 18.2 MΩ·cm, TOC < 5 ppb
- Type 2 (pure): resistivity > 1 MΩ·cm, TOC < 50 ppb
- Type 3 (RO water): conductivity < 1 µS/cm
- RO + EDI or mixed-bed deionisation for continuous ultrapure water

How It Works
Pre-treatment (Type 3)
Feed water (tap or borewell) is pre-treated with a sediment filter, activated carbon filter, and water softener before the RO system. The RO produces Type 3 water (conductivity < 1 µS/cm) suitable for general laboratory washing and rinsing.
RO Purification
The RO membrane removes 97–99% of dissolved ions, bacteria, and endotoxins from the feed water, producing Type 3 water. RO water is stored in a polypropylene or stainless steel storage tank for further polishing.
Deionisation (Type 2)
RO water passes through a mixed-bed deionisation cartridge or EDI module, removing residual ions to produce Type 2 water with resistivity > 1 MΩ·cm — suitable for buffer preparation, media preparation, and general analytical work.
UV Oxidation (Type 1)
A 185 nm UV lamp oxidises dissolved organic compounds (TOC) in the deionised water, breaking them down to CO₂ and water. This reduces TOC to below 5 ppb, required for Type 1 ultrapure water.
Final Polishing (Type 1)
A final mixed-bed polishing cartridge removes any ions released by UV oxidation, achieving resistivity > 18.2 MΩ·cm. An ultrafiltration membrane removes particles and pyrogens (endotoxins) for the most demanding applications.
Recirculation & Dispensing
Ultrapure water is continuously recirculated through the system to prevent bacterial growth and maintain water quality. Water is dispensed on demand at the point of use through a dedicated dispensing tap with online quality monitoring.
