An industrial RO plant manufacturer in India designs and supplies reverse osmosis systems from 500 LPH to multi-MLD capacity, covering pre-treatment, high-pressure pumping, membrane arrays, post-treatment and automation — tailored to the feed water quality and process requirements of each industry.
Reverse osmosis has become the backbone of industrial water treatment in India. From pharmaceutical-grade purified water to boiler feed water for power plants, from desalination for coastal industries to high-purity process water for electronics manufacturing — industrial RO plants deliver consistent, reliable water quality at scale.
How Industrial Reverse Osmosis Works
Reverse osmosis forces feed water through semi-permeable membranes at pressures of 10–80 bar, depending on the feed TDS. The membranes reject 95–99% of dissolved salts, heavy metals, bacteria, viruses and organic compounds. The purified permeate flows to the product tank; the concentrated reject (brine) is either discharged or further treated in a ZLD system.
Pre-treatment
Multimedia filtration, activated carbon filtration and 5-micron cartridge filtration remove suspended solids, chlorine and particulates that would foul or damage the RO membranes.
Anti-scalant dosing
Chemical dosing prevents calcium carbonate, calcium sulphate and silica scaling on the membrane surface — critical for high-TDS feed water from borewells and rivers.
High-pressure pumping
Energy-efficient high-pressure pumps (with energy recovery devices on large systems) drive feed water across the membrane array at the operating pressure required for the feed TDS.
Membrane array
Spiral-wound polyamide thin-film composite (TFC) membranes arranged in pressure vessels in series/parallel configurations achieve the required recovery rate (typically 50–75%) and permeate quality.
Post-treatment
Depending on the application, permeate is further polished with mixed-bed DM, EDI (electrodeionisation), UV sterilisation or remineralisation before distribution.
Industrial RO Plant Applications by Sector
| Industry | Water Requirement | Role of RO |
|---|---|---|
| Pharmaceutical | Purified Water (PW) and Water for Injection (WFI) per WHO GMP / Schedule M / IP standards | Core purification stage after UF pre-treatment; followed by EDI or mixed-bed DM and UV |
| Power Plants | Ultra-pure DM water for high-pressure boiler feed; zero silica and hardness | First-pass RO reduces TDS by 95–99%; second-pass or mixed-bed DM achieves conductivity < 0.1 µS/cm |
| Food and Beverage | Potable water meeting IS 10500; process water free of chlorine, iron and microbial contamination | Removes dissolved salts, nitrates and organic contaminants; followed by UV or ozone for disinfection |
| Textiles | Soft, low-TDS water for dyeing and finishing; consistent quality to prevent colour variation | Removes hardness and dissolved salts that cause colour inconsistency and fabric damage |
| Hospitality | Potable drinking water; kitchen and laundry process water; swimming pool make-up | Removes TDS, hardness, iron and microbial contamination from borewell or municipal supply |
| Dialysis Centres | Ultra-pure water meeting AAMI/ISO 23500 standards for haemodialysis | Double-pass RO with continuous loop recirculation; online conductivity and endotoxin monitoring |

Frequently Asked Questions
What is an industrial RO plant and how is it different from a domestic RO?
An industrial RO plant is a high-capacity reverse osmosis system designed for continuous 24×7 operation at flow rates from 500 LPH to several MLD. Unlike domestic RO purifiers, industrial systems include robust pre-treatment (multimedia filter, activated carbon, cartridge filter), high-pressure pumps, anti-scalant dosing, automated CIP (clean-in-place) systems and SCADA-based monitoring — engineered for the specific feed water quality and process requirements of each industry.
What is the cost of an industrial RO plant in India?
Industrial RO plant costs in India range from ₹1.5–5 lakh for a 500–2,000 LPH skid-mounted system to ₹20–80 lakh for a 50–500 KLD custom plant. Multi-MLD systems for power or municipal applications can cost ₹1–5 crore. Key cost drivers are flow rate, feed TDS, recovery rate, automation level and post-treatment requirements.
How long do RO membranes last in an industrial plant?
Industrial RO membranes typically last 3–5 years with proper pre-treatment and regular CIP (clean-in-place) maintenance. Premature fouling or scaling — usually caused by inadequate pre-treatment or anti-scalant dosing — can reduce membrane life to 1–2 years. A well-designed pre-treatment train and a preventive maintenance schedule are the most important factors in membrane longevity.
What is the recovery rate of an industrial RO plant?
Most industrial RO plants operate at 50–75% recovery — meaning 50–75% of the feed water becomes purified permeate and 25–50% is rejected as concentrate (brine). Higher recovery rates are possible with multi-pass systems or brine recycling, but require careful management of scaling risk. For ZLD applications, the reject is further treated in an evaporator or crystalliser.
Which industries need an industrial RO plant in India?
Industries that commonly require industrial RO plants include pharmaceuticals (purified water and WFI), power plants (boiler feed DM water), food and beverage (process water), textiles (soft water for dyeing), hospitality (potable water from borewells), dialysis centres (ultra-pure water) and any industry drawing from high-TDS groundwater sources.
